In Achaia, Apollos “gave great assistance to those who had come to believe through grace” (Acts 18:27) His way of helping Christians was precisely by effective preaching; and this help was so worthwhile that the Word of God itself acknowledges it as “great.” Preaching is like that – a great treasure for the Church.

According to a third-century writer named Ammonius, Apollos was “boiling with the Spirit: being enlightened by the grace of God, he knew precisely and taught from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ. And this very knowledge did not allow him to keep quiet” (Catena on the Acts of the Apostles, cited in Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture, NT Vol. V, page 231).

Your labor in preaching is also a great treasure for the Church, as you unfold the Word of God. The more deeply you encounter his Word, the more the knowledge of it will not allow you to keep quiet!
